According to the latest National Road Carriers Association (NRC) cost index research by Infometrics, diesel prices have dropped to their lowest since January 2022, but this positive shift is balanced by rising costs elsewhere. Labour costs increased by 0.7%, while tyre and vehicle parts saw a 1.7% rise, and maintenance costs jumped by 5.5%. Overall transport costs are down 4.5% from last year - the first annual decline since 2021.
"Lower debt-servicing costs are set to have a substantial positive effect on firms' cashflow throughout the next year," says Infometrics chief forecaster Gareth Kiernan.
