NZ Transport Agency has opened procurement for Section 1 of the Northland Corridor project, a 26km four-lane highway between Warkworth and Te Hana. This significant infrastructure development includes an 850m tunnel through the Dome valley and three interchanges, addressing critical safety and resilience challenges on this important freight route.
"This project is an important investment in Northland's future and will deliver long-term benefits for both the region and New Zealand's wider transport network," says NZTA Northland Corridor Programme Director Derek Robertson.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, with the project being delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP).
